How to properly care for your toothbrush

Your humble toothbrush needs some love from time to time too

Your humble toothbrush needs some love from time to time too. Here are some ways in which you can pamper your oral health pal.

Freshen up your rinse routine

After brushing, thoroughly rinse your toothbrush under running water to remove any remaining toothpaste, saliva and debris.

Stand tall—store your brush with care

Store your toothbrush upright in a toothbrush holder where it can air dry between uses. Avoid covering the toothbrush or storing it in a closed container, as this can promote bacterial growth.

Sharing is caring but not with a toothbrush

Toothbrushes are personal hygiene items and should not be shared with others. Sharing toothbrushes can spread germs and increase the risk of infections.

Toothbrushes need spa days too

Periodically clean your toothbrush by soaking your toothbrush in antibacterial mouthwash or a mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes. Rinse thoroughly before using again.

Out with the old—replace your brush regularly

Replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed or worn. If you are needing to replace them more often than every two months, you are pressing too hardtry using a light grip with three fingers and avoiding the fist grip!
