“I wish I’d done this sooner.” A phrase we’ve heard from countless patients after choosing dental implants.

They say it after experiencing the relief dental implants bring—often following years of adjusting to missing teeth, avoiding favourite foods or feeling self-conscious in photos and conversations.

Most people don’t even realise how much they’ve adapted... until they no longer have to. When that weight, one they didn’t even know they were carrying, is finally gone, the relief is both physical and emotional. That’s why we call implants transformative—because they really are.

While many people have heard of dental implants, they don’t always realise just how life-changing they can be—or that they might be a great candidate themselves.

If you’ve been wondering if they’re right for you, we’re offering complimentary consultations until May.

Full smile transformation with an all-on-8 zirconia bridge

The patient above first came to us wearing a poorly fitting upper partial denture. Alongside that, their remaining natural teeth were deteriorating due to decay and years of wear—especially in the front, where their bite caused the top and bottom teeth to hit directly against each other, wearing them down over time (a condition known as edge-to-edge bite). To restore both function and aesthetics, we rehabilitated the upper arch using a full set of dental implants—an All-on-8 treatment. This means eight implants were placed to support a full arch bridge, giving the patient a stable, permanent solution.

Phase one: At first, the patient received a custom-made acrylic hybrid bridge. This bridge is lightweight but strong, and reinforced internally with titanium. It’s ideal for the healing phase, as newly placed implants need time to bond with the jawbone before handling heavier materials.

Phase two: After 9-12 months, once the implants had fully integrated, the patient transitioned to a Zirconia bridge. Zirconia is an ultra-durable, natural-looking material designed to last a lifetime with proper care. It’s heavier and more rigid, so it’s only suitable once the implants have fully healed and stabilised. In the lower arch, we performed conservative cosmetic work, using composite bonding guided by Digital Smile Design to enhance the natural teeth and bring harmony to the overall smile.

Your implant journey step-by-step

1. Consultation

Meet Dr Nick Williams, review 3D scans and receive a personalised plan.

2. Digital planning and mapping

We take digital X-rays and 3D scans to assess your jaw and bone quality. Using advanced software, we map the jaw to determine the ideal placement for your implant.

3. Implant surgery

With precision guidance, Dr Nick places the titanium implant under local anaesthetic (with optional sedation). Medication is prescribed to support healing.

4. Healing and integration (3–6 months)

During this time, your jawbone fuses with the implant in a process called osseointegration, creating a solid foundation.

5. Final crown placement

We take impressions and craft a custom crown (or bridge/denture) that matches your natural teeth. The crown is then attached securely.

6. Follow-up and aftercare

We provide post-op instructions, check in on healing, and offer ongoing care to ensure long-term success.

Patient Testimonial

★★★★★

For quite a few years now, I had no front teeth. After talking to Nick and Kara, I felt confident again. I had 5 implants placed, and now I can smile with pride — and my wife is thrilled.

Types of dental implant solutions

Single Tooth Implant: Ideal for replacing one missing tooth. Looks and functions just like the original.

Multiple Tooth Implants: Used when several teeth are missing. One or two implants anchor a custom bridge.

All-on-4 Implant: Four implants support a full arch of prosthetic teeth — perfect for full-mouth restoration.

Implant-Supported Dentures: Snap-on dentures that lock securely into implants. No more slipping!

Clockwise from left to right: single tooth implant, multiple tooth implants, all-on-four implants, implant supported dentures.

Who is a good candidate?

Dental implants are ideal for patients who:

  • Have missing teeth due to injury, decay, or age
  • Want a permanent solution without removable dentures
  • Have healthy gums and adequate jawbone

Note: If you have gum disease, decay or bone loss, we’ll treat those first to ensure implant success.

Treatment timeline

Step Duration
Healing after implant 3–4 months
If bone grafting is needed Add 3–6 months
Full process 3–9 months depending on case

A healthy mouth = long-lasting implants

Before placing implants, we address any underlying dental issues like:

  • Cavities
  • Gum disease
  • Plaque buildup

This is essential to avoid:

  • Implant failure from infection
  • Bone loss compromising placement
  • Peri-implantitis (gum disease around implants)

If you have dental issues, we reccommend the following:

  • Dental exam: $132
  • Hygiene treatment: $215–$248
  • Any needed fillings, gum therapy or cleanings

We build a strong foundation for a lifetime smile.

FAQs

Are dental implants painful?
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. Local anaesthesia and light sedation are used to ensure you remain comfortable throughout.

How long do dental implants last?
With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime, making them a durable and long-term solution.

Can I eat normally with dental implants?
Yes! Once the implant has healed and the crown is attached, you can eat your favourite foods without worrying about shifting or discomfort.

What happens if I don’t have enough bone for implants?
If you don’t have sufficient bone, a bone graft may be necessary. This involves adding bone material to your jaw, allowing it to regenerate and create a sturdy base for the implant. Depending on the amount of bone loss, the healing time may range from 3-9 months.

Will my dental implants look like natural teeth?
Yes! Dental implants are custom-made to match the size, shape, and colour of your natural teeth, ensuring they blend in perfectly with your smile.

DENTAL IMPLANTS: PRE- AND POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Thank you for trusting us with your implant care. These pre- and post-treatment instructions are designed to support a smooth recovery and optimal healing. Please follow them closely for the best results.

Pre-treatment

Prescriptions: Ensure you have any prescribed medications as discussed during your consultation. Follow instructions for any pre-surgery medications, such as antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications. You may also take Arnica for three days leading up to surgery (available in tablets, tongue spray or gel) to help reduce post-surgical swelling, if advised.

Post-treatment

Managing Bleeding: You’ll leave the clinic with gauze in place; keep firm, steady pressure on the gauze for at least 30–40 minutes. Light bleeding or pink saliva is normal, but if you experience excessive bleeding, use fresh, rolled gauze over the surgical area and bite down gently but firmly for at least 30 minutes. You may dampen the gauze with cold water to slow bleeding further.

Numbness: You may experience numbness in your lips, cheeks and tongue for 2–6 hours due to the local anaesthetic. Avoid chewing on these areas during this time to prevent accidental injury. We also recommend avoiding naps during this period, as you may be unaware of any trauma caused to your lips or tongue while asleep.

Pain relief and anti-inflammatory medication: Take prescribed pain relief (e.g., Panadol) and anti-inflammatory medication (e.g., ibuprofen or diclofenac) within an hour of surgery. Continue these medications regularly for 24 hours to manage discomfort. If needed, you may take additional pain relief using it sparingly and only as required. Take care with these medications if you feel drowsy or nauseous, and avoid driving.

Complete antibiotics: Finish the full course of prescribed antibiotics (typically 5–7 days), even if you feel better, to ensure infection prevention.

Cold compress: Apply an ice pack to the outside of your face near the surgery site for 10–15 minutes at a time throughout the first day to reduce swelling.

Rest and elevation: Keep your head elevated while resting or sleeping to reduce swelling. After 72 hours, switch to a warm compress to help ease any lingering discomfort, especially at night.

Avoid smoking: Smokers are at a higher risk of complications, so it’s best to avoid smoking for at least one week post-surgery. Refrain from drinking alcohol for at least 48 hours.

Rinsing: Avoid rinsing or spitting on the first day. After that, gently rinse 2–3 times daily with warm salt water or an antibacterial mouth rinse like Curasept or Savacol (available at pharmacies).

Cleaning the surgical site: If advised, apply a small amount of Curasept or Savacol to the surgical site twice daily using a cotton bud. Brush the rest of your teeth as usual, avoiding the surgical area.

Eating and nutrition: Stick to a cool, soft diet for 48 Hours. Good options include smoothies, yoghurt, shakes, eggs, and cold drinks (avoid fizzy or hot drinks). After 48 hours, introduce more soft foods as comfortable, avoiding hard or crunchy items until it’s easy to chew (usually around one week). Options include pasta, soup, soft vegetables, fish and avocado.

When to contact us

Please contact our clinic on (07) 858 0750 if you experience any of the following:

  • Persistent bleeding: Bleeding that doesn’t stop after following these instructions.
  • Severe swelling or pain: Uncontrolled swelling or pain despite following these guidelines.
  • Unusual taste or odour: A strong taste or odour from the surgical area after three days may indicate infection.
  • Extended numbness: If numbness persists in your lips or tongue for more than 12 hours.

By following these instructions, you’re supporting a successful, comfortable recovery. If you have any questions or notice anything unusual, please reach out—we’re here to help.
